Speed Dating: Review for Test. By Unknown April 22, I have been enjoying reading Crazy Math Teacher Lady’s blog a lot this year. This morning as I was perusing her latest posts, I read her post about speed dating as a way to mix up independent practice. I read her blog post at am and my first algebra class was at am. I scrambled to pull things together, I didn’t do other things I was supposed to do, but I avoided a boring class. Here are the cards I hand wrote answers on the back on one set.

Students were invested in their problems. I started the lesson by talking about how speed dating is an efficient way for people looking for that special someone to have better odds at finding a match. The travelers traveled to the next group clockwise , the pairs traded questions and then worked them. Three to four minutes later, repeat until you make it back to original group.

And after, one class had time to start on their study guide and the conversation continued, which was awesome. Maybe this way if he hears the problem explained 7 times to different groups it will help! And of course the miniwhiteboards are a must; everyone can see what everyone is doing so easily! And of course you need this timer as recommended by Julie to keep them honest!

I use speed dating in my German 2 class to practice past participles. It’s kind of like walking flash cards. It works quite well, but one problem I run into is that students don’t necessarily “date” all of the possible past participles if they just move around the room randomly. Do you have this problem, or are your classes small enough that it isn’t an issue?

This is a fun activity idea for students in middle school or high school math. I decided to use task cards and have them play “Speed Dating”. To make it mildly.

I want them to participate in 9 different activities at stations around a hall. Obviously this will require 9 sessions to allow the participants to visit each station.

The problem arises from the fact that I would also like to use this as a networking opportunity. It would be great if someone knew of a method or algorithm to allocate participants to groups so that they only meet other participants once. Two encounters would be acceptable but I don’t really want any more than that. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. Home Questions Tags Users Unanswered. Split the class into two groups. Half of the class sits at a desk, the other half of the class moves around the desks. \n\nThe stationary students.
